We are a small editorial team, not a tourism board, not a booking agency and not the operator of anything you will read about here. We publish 28 places, 22 category guides and 10 long-form guides about one destination, and nothing else — which is the whole point.
The colour is the first thing anyone mentions and it is not a marketing invention. The sand along this stretch of the Florida Panhandle is nearly pure quartz, washed down from the Appalachians and ground fine over thousands of years, and it is white enough to make the shallow Gulf above it read as green rather than blue. That is where the Emerald Coast name comes from. The sand is also cool underfoot in August and squeaks when you walk on it, which no amount of brochure copy prepares you for.
